It has been noted that disaster after disaster in spite of the level of industrialization and resources of nations, official response and humanitarian interventions has lacked behind or have been conducted poorly.
After much research, the solution to solving the chronic under-performance of the nations’ response and interventions to emergencies, appeared to be in building the capacities of the leadership directing, managing, and dealing with interventions. In order to do so, the practitioners and policy makers need to understand disaster analytics, risk reduction, risk management, consequence management, climate variability and population growth and its consequences on urbanization, to mention but a few.
Due to the increasing imperative for resilient leadership in disaster and emergency interventions as well as in humanitarian intervention, ISDES initiated steps to start a specialized program in graduate and post-graduate education to help strengthen leadership for DRR/DRM.
